Messy Make it Monday! Seaside Wishes

This past Saturday, I gathered with some local Team DSP members to partake in the special event for demonstrators- Creativity Now. We had the chance to pre purchase a special bundle – Winterly Treetops. This bundle is great for cards all winter, not just for Christmas. It will appear in the September-December mini catalog.

As a part of the presentation, we learned how to use the Palette Knives with the Metallic Enamel Effects Basics to create a fun background (we created a gift card holder using the copper enamel effects). I started to wonder, could we add some ink refill to the silver to create a shiny effect in other colors. And so, I decided to mix a drop of Misty Moonlight with the Silver enamel effects. These Enamel Effects are great to write with, create curvy lines or even dots as accents. However, adding a drop of ink refill really expanded the possibilities for this product!

For this card, I choose to use an 8 1/2″ x 5 1/2″, scored at 4 1/4″ card base cut from the new Basic Beige. I then cut the Country Woods DSP to 4″ x 5 1/4″.

Next, I cut a piece of Basic White to 3 1/2″ x 4 3/4″. I choose to tear around the edges and then tear off roughly 1/3″ to separate the ocean from the sand.

Then, the fun part! I added silver Enamel Effects to what would become the sand with a palette knife. Next, I added a drop of Misty Moonlight Ink Refill to some silver Enamel Effects and blended with the palette knife. I then added this to the large torn piece of white. When the card stock was completely covered, I used the knife to create some wavy lines to mimic the waves of the ocean.

When dry, I used the “dots” image from the stamp set and crumb cake ink to add texture to the sand. I added these two pieces to the card front. I precut two Basic Beige sand dollars that I used a blending brush to add a slight bit of crumb cake ink to. I also precut two stamped Calypso Coral Starfish stamped on Calypso Coral cad stock. I layered these all on the card front, along with a greeting from the Seaside Wishes Bundle stamped on the circle die cut from the Spotlight on Nature dies. I finished off the card with a few Flat Adhesive Backed Pearls.

The enamel effects have such a shimmery look to them! I cannot wait to try this with other colors! it was relatively quick and not to messy, especially with the silicone mat!
